ABOUT THE METALS WE USE
Gold Filled & Rose Gold Filled:
Gold-filled is made by heat and pressure-bonding a thin layer of karat gold to a brass (or other base metal) core. Gold-filled has an actual layer of karat gold, not just a microscopic film and unlike plated material, the gold layer will not wear or chip off. It has a tarnish-resistant surface but should be cleaned periodically with a polishing cloth to maintain shine.
Sterling Silver :
We purchase all our sterling silver from a metal refinery. Any scraps we have we melt, make ingots, roll out and cut new pieces from.
Sterling silver is an alloy containing metals that react with chemicals found in the air and produce tarnish; high moisture levels, exposure to sunlight, and contaminants such as salt water increase this reaction. Take steps to protect sterling silver by keeping it in airtight packages, using tarnish-resistant products (such as tarnish tabs or strips) that absorb harmful chemicals, and storing sterling findings in a cool, dry place.
If you consistently wear your sterling pieces they will for the most part stay shiny. If you notice dulling just use a polishing cloth to brighten it back up. For more aggressive tarnish we recommend a silver polish paste.
